Oppo,

Looking at a Z4 M that got hit in the right front. It's been repaired very well. Would you buy one that had the below damage?

I was put on a frame rack and lined up, new strut tower, tie-rods, alignement etc. Air bag went off. Only issue is a intermittent tire pressure sensor light.

I've never bought a wrecked car before so I'm not as versed in what to watch out for.

How much cheaper is it than a clean one?

Hows the engine hold up? Do you have an "After" photo?

Does it have a salvage title? What's the cost of a new one where you are?

Also what hoops do you have to jump through in your state to register a salvage title?

EDIT: Thought you were asking me specifically. Edited accordingly.

For the OP though... In my state you have to pay for a $100 special inspection where they tear your car apart to make sure all of the numbers match, and then another $100 for the title if it passes. It's not the money, but the time and effort it takes can be bad. I haven't done it myself, but I've heard that it can be a real pain in the ass to schedule the appointment and take the time to get it passed.

If the air bags blew, it had the frame straightened, and has a salvage title, that's three strikes.

If I'm going to be tossing a sports car around corners, I want the frame to be un-blemished so that it can do its job to the best of its abilities in the event I get sideways. If the frame has been "repaired" or straightened after a crash, then it's lost a portion of its structural integrity.

Stay away. Stay far away.

Nope. Nope, nope, nope. I've had a bad enough time with cars that had minor damage (that went unreported, no less) as far as long-term fitment and squeaks and rattles and things, that I don't want to touch major damage, even if "well" repaired.

Exactly, and it widely varies state to state.

Currently it's $10k+ cheaper. I can't find one close to me. This one is out of state.

Seller has a video of car running up to 120 and then braking to zero. No drama at the wheel.

Good question on the title. That brings up an interesting point. Car was bought in Seattle, imported to Edmonton where it had the accident. Sold by insurance company to current own who had it fixed. Then brought back down to the states.

If you don't have the ability to repair and improve the frame yourself, I don't know if 10k is big enough of a savings, honestly. I'd do 10k for something that had a fender bender or largely cosmetic damage (hail, etc.) but not for a frame-damaging wreck.

How are you going to ask NPOCP, and not tell us the price?

It might be tempting, but I agree with the Baron - 3 major strikes, with the frame straightening being the killer.

Well, it's an ebay car so it's going to change. Currently $13k. But I anticipate it to be around $16k.

If you never purchased a wrecked car, here's what you usually look for.

A car that isn't wrecked.

$16K would be good, $22K would be too much. Just make sure you want to use it up, or make it a track car. It's never easy to sell a car that has a rebuilt title.
